The Uniden BC-RH96 Remote Head lets you fully control your BCD996XT and the older BCD996T, the BCT15X and the older BCT15 base/mobile scanners as well as the BCD396XT, the older BCD396T, the BC346XT and the BR330T portable scanners. You can effectively turn your handheld scanner into a mobile controlled by this head. For mobile users of a 996 or a 15 who don't have a good place to mount the bulky full-size radio, now you can mount it in your trunk or under your seat and fully control it from this control head.
This is not a kit where you detach the existing head unit of the radio. This is a brand-new control unit that connects to your scanner via the serial port via a cable. The package includes the control head, a 10-foot connector cable, DC power cord, mounting bracket, strain relief, quick reference cards, and owner's manual. At only 1 3/4 inches deep you can find some great mounting options above, on or under your dash or in the center console. You could even have multiple control heads at home or mobile.
Please mount and use your mobile head units carefully and responsibly and take care to consider their effect in an accident condition.

I've installed this on my car dashboard, allowing me to use by BCT15X when mobile. Should have bought it years ago.

I own two of these and they work great.
The scanner can go under a seat or in the trunk,
newer cars don't have much up front.

I bought this to go with my BCD396XT and it works great! I plan on installing it in my truck and put the 396XT in the console. I upgraded the software when I got it. Very easy and again I am very pleased!

    RH96 Remote Head April 13, 2012

I have 3 of them in use. One in my work car that controls a remote mounted BCT-15, another in my personal auto that controls a BCT-15 and one near my bed that controls a 346xt.

The ones I have mounted in my vehicles work great. I didn't have room to mount the BCT-15 scanners where I could have easy access to the controls, so I mounted the scanners under the seat and have the remote head within easy reach.

The remote head bracket can be mounted virtually anywhere either with screws or with velcro. The velcro makes it easier to detach the remote head and hide it when the vehicles are parked.

The remote heads offer full control of the scanners EXCEPT powering the actual scanner. If you power off the knob on the remote head, it does NOT turn off the scanner. The scanner itself must be turned on or off manually. I have mine hooked up to the cigarette lighter circuit. That way the scanner automatically turns on when the car is on and off when I turn the car off.
