Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Do I need programming for the SDS200 to work?
A: Yes. While the scanner includes a nationwide database, it is not fully set up for your specific area out of the box. Without proper programming, you may hear too much, too little, or nothing at all. Programming ensures you hear the right local communications clearly and easily.
Q: Will this scanner work in my area?
A: In most cases, yes. The SDS200 is designed to receive modern digital and trunked radio systems used by police, fire, and EMS across the country. However, every area is different, so proper setup is important to make sure you are receiving the systems used locally.
Q: What are DMR and NXDN, and do I need them?
A: DMR and NXDN are types of digital radio systems used in many areas. The SDS200 can receive them, but they require optional upgrades. If your local agencies use these systems and they are not enabled and programmed correctly, you may not hear anything. We can help determine if they are needed for your area.

About Our Set-Up & Optimize Service

Professional Programming for Your SDS200

Get your scanner set up the right way from the start.

Programming is the most important step in getting the SDS200 to work properly. This is a powerful, advanced scanner, but it only works as well as it is programmed.

Without the right setup, many customers turn the scanner on and hear little to nothing, or too much unrelated traffic. That often leads to frustration.

Our programming service ensures your scanner arrives ready to use for your specific area, so you can turn it on and start listening right away.

What We Do

We customize your SDS200 based on your location and what you want to hear:

  • Program local police, fire, EMS, and public safety systems
  • Configure trunked and digital P25 systems correctly
  • Set up DMR and NXDN systems (if used in your area)
  • Build organized Favorites Lists for easy use
  • Apply proper filters and settings for best performance
  • Update the full database and install the latest firmware

Your scanner is set up so you hear what matters, not everything.

DMR & NXDN – What You Need to Know

Many areas now use DMR and NXDN systems.

These require optional upgrades to receive them. If these systems are used in your area and your scanner is not upgraded and programmed correctly, you may not hear anything at all.

We take this into account during programming so your scanner is set up properly for your location.

Can You Program It Yourself?

Yes, and some experienced users choose to.

The SDS200 uses Uniden Sentinel software to manage programming. While it is a great tool, there is a learning curve, especially with modern digital and trunked systems.

If you want to avoid the setup time and frustration, professional programming is the easiest way to get started.

Ongoing Support

If you ever need help after your purchase, our team is here for you.

Whether you have questions, want to make changes, or need guidance, we are available to help you get the most out of your scanner.

Failure
After recent firmware updates, this radio spontaneously drops P25 P1 reception with no detectable pattern or reason. Uniden will not acknowledge the issue.

Some users found this review unhelpful:
Disappointed
I do not recommend buying the SDS200. It does not have audio AGC. If one side of a P25 conversation, for example, is barely audible and you use the channel volume offset function to be able to hear it, the originally normal-volume side of the conversation will be blasting loud. This is very frustrating for a radio which costs so much money. I disagree with the descriptions "world's most advanc

Best you can get..
This Scanner is amazing. I had the 100 and wanted the 200. This unit has everything you could want and more. Speaker is also much better than the 100. As I reviewed the 100 I will also state the same issue that I've found with both Uniden SDS models. The filters that may or may not have to be used are awful to deal with, depending on your area. I spend a lot of time going through them. Sometime on

SDS200 Scanner and Setup / Programming
SDS200 arrived ready to go; I just attached the antenna, ac adapter and turned it on. It started scanning the pre-programmed list right away. The ScannerMaster team did an excellent job at setting up my county preferences, updating the firmware and putting in the waterfall upgrade. 5/5 and would recommend to anyone thinking of buying a scanner. Very professional and pleasure to do business with!

Just Plug It In
Attach power cord & antenna; turn it on. I let them program it. I just turned it on and heard what I wanted. That's all I had to do. Spectacular results with NO effort. Do yourself a favor, let them program it - they are experts - you will have a "learning curve" going by yourself.
