A simple to use scanner for the train enthusiast, the BCD160DN has Service Searches for railroad band. This scanner has the capability of receiving the NXDN digital protocol, which is being used now in some areas of the country for railroad communications. DMR & NXDN Included. You can also pre-program your railroad's frequencies into memory and concentrate on known channels. You can even use Close Call RF Capture feature to find nearby transmissions that might not be listed in frequency guides.

The BCD160DN may also be used for other purposes, such as aviation, the marine band (for boats and ships), weather monitoring and alerts, and even analog police, fire and EMS communications.

The BCD160DN is compact enough to fit in your shirt pocket and takes up little room in your camera bag. Using the included rechargeable batteries you will have hours of use, and if they run out you can replace them with regular AA size batteries. We also provide both home and car charger adapters.

In theory, the BCD160DN should perform as well as the pretty decent BC125AT, with the additional capability of NXDN and DMR reception. It doesn't. Side-by-side, the BCD160DN has significantly worse sensitivity on the analog channels than does the BC125AT. So, for about double the price of the BC125AT, one gets a poorer performing radio on analog to get NXDN/DMR capability. For the record, I tested both radios with identical antennas under the exact same conditions. Also, the BCD160 has less battery life between recharges compared to the BC125AT--often 30% less or worse. Unless you need NXDN and DMR, the BC125AT is a better radio at a lower price. I used to maintain an NXDN radio system, so I have commercial NXDN radios that also have superior analog reception. Uniden needs to improve the BCD160DN, which could be a very good radio if it wasn't so "deaf" on the analog channels.
