Basics

This antenna from SpectrumForce is a tiny tuned powerhouse on the UHF 440-512 MHz and 700/800 MHz public safety scanner bands. It's very small, preferably mounted vertically, and can be placed inconspicuously in a front or back windshield of a car or any window of a home.

The antenna comes with 10' of RG-174 cable with BNC connector for connecting to most scanners.

Performance on UHF and 700/800 MHz is markedly improved over stock wide band antennas on these bands (but will not outperform a gain outdoor antenna if one could be mounted).

It doesn’t work all the time on MSP trunking channels. Other than that it seems to be fine on other fire and police channels.

Have not tried this antenna as of yet but if it's like the other purchases from scanner master I won't be disappointed

Bought this antenna for a PRO-197 base station. Had zero increase in signal with this antenna verses the factory metal extendable antenna.

5 of 5 What a surprise July 21, 2015

I had been using an external antenna for my BCD-396XT scanner until the antenna connector broke.  I came across this little antenna and decided to give it a try.  By the time it came I had fixed the old antenna connection, so it allowed me to spend a week switching back and forth between the two.  Surprisingly the little antenna was just as good.  My only concern is that the antenna cable is pretty thin and I hope the antenna connection holds up, but definitely worth giving a try.

I bought this to use with a Uniden BCD536HP scanner mounted in my car.  Was looking for a clean looking install with no visible antennas.  Unit is smaller than it appears in the picture.  Pretty tiny, in fact.  I have it mounted in the upper right windshield with the wire routed into my A pillar and with one end of the antenna pointing up and the other pointing down towards the ground (vertically) as recommended.  I am using it to listen to 800 and live in a good coverage area.  I have the BCD436HP handheld as well with the radio shack 800 antenna and notice that it is getting transmissions that my mobile is not.  reception is 3 to 4 bars when on my handheld in the car it is 5.  I did some research and found that this is a "unity gain" antenna meaning that it does not add or subtract any gain. However it is connected to a lossy RG 174.  I stopped using it and currently am using the window clip on external mount with a Laird 800 2.5 gain antenna which works far better.
