Smooth digital sound, not ducky sounding. Does better on analog VHF/UHF than it does with P25 Simulcast systems. You may get lucky where you live, but a  base 700/800mhz YAGI antenna is needed to get a digital trunked system. Mobile use is difficult, the volume of the scanner is very low on analog. Digital is better but you still need an amplified speaker.

5 of 5 Better than good! March 5, 2015

Had mine now for a few months and I love it.  Battery life is great, programming is a breeze and it looks great too!

I bought mine on Amazon though because its almost $100 cheaper there.  Here is where I got mine http://amzn.to/18UVT1r brand new including shipping.

I have always shopped on Scanner Master and the support here is beyond great but the prices lately are way off.

First off, the speaker is not loud enough on the WS 1080.  On a scale of 1-10 with 1 being poor the WS 1080 is at best a 5 on the P25 systems.  The P25 Phase II might be a 2 at best.  Sorry, but my $100 Bearcat is a better scanner even though it doesn't receive P25. Very disappointed especially with how much it cost.

Good clear sound. Light weight. Low battery use to date. Complicated to program. Still trying to figure it out. Find the instruction manual difficult to understand and incomplete.

2 of 5 Suffers from multipath problems on P25 simulcast October 29, 2014

I was a Uniden customer for a long time, but since their scanners suffer from problems decoding simulcast P25 sites, I thought I'd give Whister a shot. Unfortunately, the Whistler, like the Uniden 396XTs, 996XTs, BCD436HP, and BCD536HP all suffer from poor performance on these systems because they don't use the proper hardware and design to work well. Otherwise, the scanner is OK.

This appears to be a rebranded "GRE PSR-800 E-Z Scan Digital". Face plate is identical.
