Narrowband refers to a situation in radio communications where the bandwidth of the message does not significantly exceed the channel's coherence bandwidth. Most public safety radios are using 25 kHz-wide channels. The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) is allowing 12.5 kHz-wide channels this will add more frequencies for use.
