| Order the scanner alone, or build your own package with discounted accessories for additional savings and HomeTown Programming to have the scanner professionally programmed so it's ready to use right out of the box. If you choose Hometown Programming we will program the county where the scanner is being shipped unless you otherwise note in the Comments section on the Checkout Page. If you choose to have more than one county programmed, you must list each one or we will choose for you.
Scanner Summary The GRE PSR-200 is a fine entry-level desktop scanner, built by GRE of Japan, a company that has been designing and building scanners for decades for RadioShack and many European companies. This is a very basic scanner and has only a handful of features. It is not for everyone. For many people this scanner will not work due to the radio systems in their area.
Features: Desktop Design 200 Channels SAME (FIPS) Weather Alert 5 One Touch Service Searches Skywarn PC Programmable Backlight LCD Display Sleek and versatile design Easy to use Buttons
Included in the box: PSR-200 Scanner Telescope Antenna AC Adapter User Manual Who Should Consider This ScannerAnyone interested in a low-cost desktop scanner who lives in an area with basic (analog FM) police and fire radio systems should consider this scanner. The scanner does not do trunking or digital or 700 or 800 MHz. If you are unsure if your area (or if you're giving the scanner as a gift, if you're unsure about the area in which the radio will be used), please check out our sister site, www.policescanners.net. The scanner is also great for people who are interested in local Ham Radio and weather spotter frequencies, the Marine Band, the Aircraft Band and common Police and Fire channels as the scanner has one-touch search buttons for these radio bands. So if you live by an airport or along the coast, or in an area with lots of severe storms and active weather spotters, this GRE PSR-200 is a great choice for you. The scanner also has SAME weather alert which allows you to program your county and then only receive weather alerts that are targeting your county (you can also listen to all weather alerts in your region in the default mode).
Who Should NOT Consider This Scanner Anyone who lives in an area with public safety trunking and/or digital radio systems should not consider the GRE PSR-200. In many areas of the country local, county and state agencies use these advanced radio systems which require a more advanced scanner to monitor. Also, if you prefer a scanner with an alpha-numeric display which can be programmed to read-out the name of the agency transmitting (and not just the frequency number), then a more advanced model is for you. If you want a scanner that can be easily transported then a portable scanner would be a better choice.
Scanner Strengths and Useful Features As mentioned the SAME Weather Alert and one-touch service search bands of Marine, Air, Ham and common Police/Fire is a strength of this radio. It's also a nicely designed desktop that's easy to use. But there are limitations to the PSR-200 as mentioned above. The scanner is also PC programmable with Butel software although as this scanner does not offer alpha tagging or trunking the scanner software, while fun and handy, is not critical.
Comparable Scanner Models This scanner is comparable to the following models: BC340CRS. For portable models see the GRE PSR-100.
